Census and sewing.
Mar. 27th, 2011 11:21 pmCensus done, hope someone in 100 years finds it interesting for some odd reason.
Best challenge was to say what I do at work in 51 characters. Settled on "write open-source biological image management apps", disliked the word apps, would have liked 'software' or 'applications' but that made it too long.
I also got on with some sewing today - not the exciting new stuff I was making the pattern for yesterday with Mary but turning up trousers and other worthy but dull stuff. Doing it in an effort to clear the decks and remember how to sew in a straight line!

- Fri, 10:13: Trying to listen to new Bob Geldof album on Spotify. Playing an ad between every single song! Will move to prog-rock next. 1 track = 25 min
- Wed, 13:32: Bugger, would have saved 65p if I had not filled up on my way back from the hospital. Could have bought a chocolate bar.

Sore arm (See Kate, sometime I learn!)
Mar. 16th, 2011 03:12 pmI have had this blood pressure monitor on since 5pm yesterday. It is set to go off every 20 mins during the day and 45 mins at night (23:30 - 7:00). It is getting to be proper annoying now.
[pause while it goes off again]
Only another 2 hours, so perhaps 5 more readings.
Then I can look to see if I have a massive bruise, it feels like I should, and have a scratch around my arm as it is getting itchy.

I am working from home today as I have to go to the doctors this afternoon. I am being fitted with a 24 hour blood pressure monitor that I wear until wednesday evening. Should make for a disturbed nights sleep. It will inflate the cuff on my arm ever hour to take a reading. They are trying to work out if I have white coat syndrome.

I have been giving "high end of normal" reading every 6 months for 3 or 4 years. So if it is high over the 24 hour period it looks like I will end up on medication. I have already been told I am not allowed decongestants, which is a huge pain as I remember discovering them and suddenly colds were so much better. I normally get very soar teeth when I have a cold as the roots of my upper teeth poke a good way out the top of my upper jaw bone, so the full sinuses press onto the nerves at the base of the teeth.
Anyway, my question. I have just been eating lunch (homemade cornish pasty) and watching the BBC News.
Why does the Japanese prime minister look like he is dressed as a van driver from the late 80s?
I don't mean that as an insult, I am just curious. Is that the equivalent of a western business suite in Japanese culture? I have seen other people in western style suits around him and also others dressed very similar to him. Can anyone elaborate on this?
